Mission Statement | Unleashing human potential one dog at a time. |
Volunteer Duties | Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT): At-risk youth learn positive communication and interaction with dogs and one another. Participants teach the shelter dogs good manners, social skills, and basic commands, thus increasing the dogs’ chances of becoming adopted. This program teaches youth impulsivity-control, mastery of a skill, future orientation, improved literacy and the value of restorative justice. Volunteers will train the youth on the skills of training the program dogs. Volunteers will learn the skills of "Clicker" training dogs. |
Notes |
UnChained is most interested in hiring volunteers who are pursuing the field of social work, psychology or another human service field. Volunteers do not need to be experts in dog handling, behavior or training, but must be comfortable around dogs and be willing to learn dog training skills. Updated 5/26/2020 |
